    Default Benchtop advice

Looking to lay up my workbench top with 4x1 hardwood on a steel frame in an L shape configuration around the outside of my shed, approximately 4m x 4m.
I don't have a jointer to work with and boards have lots of bowing in them. I'm think of just running the electric plane on the edges and trying to pull together with clamps.
Any ideas on best way to make this work, other options?
    Cheers

    That sounds like hard work.

Maybe make friends with someone who owns a jointer close by. Or a Mens shed?

Yeah pretty long pieces 3m to 5m lengths, I'll give a try and see how I go. I just knocked them down on the new thicknesser and looks like they will be closer to 3/4" than 1".
Might have to add a plywood base to stiffen it up.

If you have a Table Saw that gives a good cut, I'd be more inclined to use that to clean up the faces than a 'leccy planer.

At least that way you'll know the faces are square, if not straightt. It's all too easy to get a bit of 'roll' with a hand-held planer, that'd leave gaps you couldn't pull tight. Even if you're proficient with non-electron hand-planes.

Now if you were thinking of dressing 'em with a hand-plane it may be a different story. I'd be more likely to call you a glutton for punishment for starters.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

It's my dream to one day have a table saw so looks like the leccy planer it it for now.
I clamped 4 boards together on edge and with a bit of packing the heights managed to plane some of the edges with them clamped together then finished in two's or individually depending on the curvature. Sort of worked ok but will see when I join them how successful it was.
