Cut and test fit of the T&G boards. In hindsight I may have to shiplap the last one.

Next up the deadman and chop.

    Cheers, Dom

Or just position all boards, as you have done, before screwing them down.

Or do nothing. Just let gravity hold them in position. (Mine are not fastenned, no problems.)

Yeah thanks Graeme. I did think that I probably won't bother to screw them down. They are a pretty nice snug fit anyway and a full 23mm thick. Probably go that route.

Made the sliding deadman and routed the respective groove in the top. Next up the chop. Then i'll do some cleanup and maybe it'll be time to assemble and start finishing as well as making the gap-stop.

Well I finally got to the assembly stage.

One Roubo Kit - some assembly required .

And the last time these two will be facing in the same direction -

The bench is now assembled and has a coat of finish. I went with Osmo. Garage is currently too messy for a full bench shot. I also still have some holes to drill and rhe gapstop to make.

“too messy”? I doubt that. Show us the bench!

Doesn't quite look like it came from Ikea.

Yeah it certainly is. This bench actually makes things a little better - the old bench that it replaces was 2.4 x 1.1m vs 2.27 x .7 for this one.

Well I decided that I needed something softer than concrete to work on around the bench. I had just enough (literally just enough by 5cm) left over floor boards from when I did messmate floors in my house 11 years ago, to build three 3.2m x 0.8m panels of flooring, that I later cut in half. I used 19mm moisture resistant particleboard as the substrate and also put down plastic moisture barrier underneath. I bolted the panels down to the concrete, with some domino's between the panels to help alignment given the uneven floor.

Cutting them to manageable - but still exhaustingly heavy - size allowed me to use the drum sander.

Put the panels in today. Had to dissassmble and re-assemble the bench to move it!

    Dom

I was going to say that bench is massive, but I don't think it conveys the correct sense of sheer size.

    Superb build.

That's a very sweet looking bench mate. The machined Benchcrafted fittings definitely look better than the cast ones. One part of me wishes I'd spent the extra money on those but it was hard enough already for me to justify to cost of the cast ones for my build.
