A little more progress. There would have been more but I'm knackered after unloading ply sheets form the Van.
Went down to the hardware store to get some polyurethane to paint the bench and saw they had some cheap 12 mm CD none structural ply - $35 a sheet.
I only needed three but there were only 5 left so got them all, plus the cover sheet for $15.
Cut and routed remaining cross members and glued/screwed it all together. One nice thing about formply is, it makes the glue clean-up nice and easy.. Nothing sticks to it!
Next step is to measure up where the router plate and t-track is going so I can add some reinforcing inside - just a few bits of 12mm ply.
I was overthinking how to mount the vice. If I have the fixed face inside the box, all I need to do is to drill three holes for the rods and screwthread to stick through, A facing piece on the outside of the box and on the other vice face should do it A coupl of bits of 90x45 inside to provide any support required.Geoff

well pretty much finished now.
something I might have done different is to put the router further in the table as being so close to end it doesnt support longer pieces and I did add adjustable feet to the trestlesSome people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they

I'm not planning to make the trestles right now as I have a pair of saw horses I'm going to use but I will steal the adjustable feet idea.
Without the bottom skins on, the tops are not quite flat (close though). Hopefully when I fit the bottom ply, It will all work out.
Making one of these benches would be a lot easier if you already had one to work on
Measuring up for the router section. The plans call for two t-tracks 600mm in length but I think this is too long. Off to the routerforums to check out some measurementsGeoff

You're making better progress than me and I have a copy of the plans!
With regards to the tracks for the router fence, they seem a bit long to me. Looking at images of router tables shows that the slots/t-track/etc for the fence are quite short - around 300mm or so.
What's the advantage in having such a large travel for the fence?Geoff

Hmm actually didnt think of why but now I can easily put a trench in the middle of a 1200mm wide board

Nearly finished.
Glued and screwed the bottom sheets on today and mounted the vice.
The side the vice is mounted on is 2 layers of 12mm ply. The fixed plate is mounted inside, bolted to the bits of pine. I'll cut some face pieces out of hardwood to finish it off.
The last picture shows the reinforcing for the router plate and t-track/mitre track. I haven't cut these slots as yet but it's ready for them when I do. Same for the mitre track at the table saw end - assuming I can mount the Triton to be usable.
The two parts are quite heavy but not so much that one person can't handle them. Using 17mm formply did add a bit of extra weight, by my calculation about 5 kgs.
As I picked up some cheap 12mm ply the other day I'll make the trestles instead of just using the existing saw horses as I'd planned.Geoff

I like the router fence
I'm waiting to see how flat mine turns out to be before I add the router section. It all depends on how close to 90 degrees the sides are!
The router plate I have needs drilling as I bought a blank plate from Woodhaven in the USA.. A job for the CNC router I think.Geoff

Although all the components were cut to size (and checked), and both parts assembled on a flat surface, the end result is such that the two parts of the bench are not of equal height at one end and one side had a twist that means both sides won;t line up to make a level surface.
Like the rest of the woodwork projects I've attempted, it's total crap.
Time to give this up and find something I can actually doGeoff

We've all been there Geoff, in fact I rarely end up anywhere else !
Can you bolt the benches together and them hold them down to the horses with a clamp ?
Dont give up !

geoff mine has a small incline over one corner and 2mm rise in centre of one panel the plywood was not the same thickness over the entire sheet ,I only discovered after glue and screw you just live with it .I've found the only way to get precision is to dimension all the timber myself and even that dont work sometimes.

What about the middle part? I am thinking a little outside could that be used as a smaller version by getting rid of the ends that are not lining up.
