    Default Castors/Wheels for mobile workbench

Hi all, just a quick one, I am going to make a mobile router table & table for my thicknesser but am having trouble finding suitable swivelling & lockable castors for them that don't cost an arm & leg. Does anyone out there know of a place to buy them cheap? Mail order or in Adelaide please.

    Thanks

Well I suppose it depends on what you call 'cheap'. If you're making mobile stands for machinery, I guess you want something that's not going to turn into a shopping trolley castor within 6 months of pushing it around.

I bought some locking swivel castors from these guys about 3 years ago: Castors & Industrial Products - distributors of Fallshaw Wheels & Castors, Richmond Wheels & Castors, Safetech Materials Handling Products

I found them very helpful to deal with. They cost about $30 each and about that much again for postage.

I think it's worth spending a bit of cash in this situation. You'll only kick yourself afterwards if you don't.

In Adelaide Castors - Caster Wheel, Trolley Wheels, Casters Wheels @ Adelaide Merchandising have a good range of castors however the prices would make you cry. Castors seem to be up there with plastic storage boxes as items that just seem to cost way more than they really should.

Hills Clearance Centre (264 Richmond Rd, Marleston SA 5033) have quite a few different options and the prices are a little more comfortable. Paramount Browns also have a fairly good range Home » Paramount Browns'.

The other option is a mobile base which are very suited to machinery from around $60-$100 from the likes of Carbatec Universal Mobile Base - 227kg capacity : CARBA-TEC are quite good value when considering the cost of individual castors and they work well.

I'd say these would cost you about $140 delivered, rated at 600kg and by far the best castors I have used:

I can second these people, I placed an on-line inquiry, they got back to me within 48 hours, recommended a product, I gave them my credit card # they shipped it in a 5Kg post pack and I received it within 4 days (They are in QLD and I am in WA I am noting more than a happy customer.

I was recommended a set of 100mm locking full swivel castors, with a special rubber tyre rated for 140Kg . They were only $32 each and just under $30 for postage I am very happy and will recommend these guys any time
