Did anyone say Carl Holmgren?
I cobbled this one together (with materials to be desired) and whilst it could be much improved, it's still more sensible in regards to anything which requires anything but
one lever to engage... well if you intend to be moving it often, like to take out the lawnmower or whatnot, then certainly,
or should I say, once you tried one, then you wouldn't consider anything else, even with niggles mentioned below,
The trouble with it being the levers, as the pedal sometime raises too high on my uneven floor, so one needs to place a foot on the pipe to scoot the bench over...
just enough to throw the swivel casters enough to allow the pedal to drop to usable height.
A wheely good workbench solution
For my other half built Scandi bench...
I plan on making something nicer with concealed bits, and hopefully with multiple lever points for when bench gets placed tight to the wall, and going to attempt levering in the opposite fashion, which may likely require a linkage rod or two, which can be seen on Carl's youtubes,
i.e the one with a hand lever.
Not seen a long bench which utilizes such a feature yet, probably cuz those youtubers all have huge workshops.
It would surely be interesting to see someone make the same thing with a foot pedal instead.

Sweeping/cleaning up dust, shavings etc that always finds their way around retractable wheels is a pain. Depending on bench design, retractable wheels can also be a trip hazard.
I have these removable retractable wheels on my bench - click here WBCS04 180 Kg Workbench Lift Castor Set of 4 – Dandenong Wheels & Castors Their code No on the web site is WBCS04.
I am very happy with them but used better quality screws than those supplied. When I need to move the bench, I put the wheels on - takes no time. When off the bench, they then have to be kept somewhere so I built a box between two bench legs in which to store them when not in use.

I've seen those foot levers sold recently, and question how easily they get stuck compared to some.
Having cut the toe on a new boot one time trying to flip up one lever, I didn't want that happening again, so added a bit more to the underside to stop the levers facing the ground, (the only box iron scraps I could get was thin walled stuff, and thus was a bit sharp)
Still a bit of a pain to use, especially for something with any weight at all to it, but then again I'm biased and spoilt now,
and have another to do differently.

For those who wish to make these from some short bits of 40, 50, and 60mm box iron, here's an in-depth WIP of them from Mr Minchin
on the woodhaven2 site.
