My cheap and quick work bench
Thought I would post few pics here, though I have posted them in a longer thread elsewhere.
It's a bench that two people can use - for my share shed.
This bench is not pretty or clever, but it is very sturdy and level.
The legs are 100 x 100mm oregon I had in my shed.
The rails are 130 x 50mm LVLs which i picked up free - they had been used as formwork and had concrete on them.
The other framing is 120mm wide lengths of ply glued together.
Then it's some formply from Bunnings.
And for the work surfaces. it's 25mm think ply from Bunnings - they sell that in sheets 2200 x 600 for $62, from memory. I made the work surfaces 1800 x 600 - seems like a good size.
The top is finished with Osmo. In hindsight, I did too good a job with the finish on the tops. It's beautiful, and the first dent or scratch will feel like a stab to my heart.
I picked up four matching vices from a seller on Gumtree.
I'm starting on a second bench this weekend.

Hi Scott. I'd call it a Cheap and Cheerful bench! A great little weekend project for anyone.
And if you find down the track, the bench moves a bit when planing, just add a couple of short knee braces.

There were moments during the making that gave me little cheer, but all's well that ends well.
I tested it yesterday with some vigorous planing, and it didn't move. I could always fix it to the floor down the track when I'm sure it's in the perfect spot - I'll work that out when i finish the second and matching bench. It will be quicker, because I learnt a few things on the first one.

The second and matching bench is done.
My bench is down the back under the tool wall, but I have been using the other benches recently. When I start to share the space, I'll retreat to my bench.

Nicely done. Simple and functional.

Nice.
Does that saw have a function - other than sitting on the wall?

A couple of years ago, a mate called me one morning and said 'I've got a problem and I bet you have a chainsaw'.
There was a small tree across his driveway.
I said, 'I can do better than a chainsaw.'
Even I was surprised at how well my uncle's old saw worked that morning.
That wooden plane works, too. It would have been my grandfathers.

Love your tool wall but your tidy workshop is too distant a goal for me
