    Default Designing drawers for bench

    Hi all,

    I'm following Ron Paulks
Awesome Rolling Tool Box Videos and Sketchup design.
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?ann...id=XQzdxByTwFk

His drawers have the following dimensions.
    Drawers
    Front 13 mm
    Sides 13 mm
    Back 13 mm
    Bottom 6 mm

Just wondering why the Bottom is 6mm?
And all the sides are 13mm.

i.e. thinking the drawer would be holding heavy items and the sides just to hold things in and not bearing any weight.
    Thanks,

You need a good frame for the drawer so that it does not rack. I made some boxes for my steel shelving and they were 13mm ply all round and they are nice and solid. I made the bottoms 13 mm as well since some would be holding heavy tools and farm bits. If it was for a drawer and it was just holding woodwork tools then 6mm may be sufficient but it all depends on what weight you intend to out in them. A 6mm base would hold a lot of weight if secured well and since there would be no movement you could glue it in.

When I was in the kitchen game we used 13mm sides and 16mm bottoms for pot drawers. For the little bit extra $ for a thicker bottom I think it would be a good move. Workshop tools and other stuff will be always heavy
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Yeah wasn't thinking that far ahead.
I'm getting the itch to get started cutting things up.
This planning thing is for thinkers.
I'm a doer. (do err) LOL

OK the 6mm all round and bottoms for the smaller drawers for lighter content shallow storage.
Like pencils n pens n drill bits, etc.
    I think. ( ? )

And 13 all round for the heavier content deeper storage.

    Plan Plan Plan Plan Plan!

    Much appreciated.
    Thanks,
