I think trying to saw both ends by hand in the one afternoon was asking a bit much. Now I just had to clean up a little bit of saw marks which went so much faster with a random orbital sander (the only power tool used during the build).

Human nature is such that we want to push a bit harder. I will restrict my comments to sawing and as soon as I find myself doing that, and I am at least as guilty of this as the next person, I sharpen the saw. The saw should be capable, even in Aussie hardwood including the royal species such as Ironbark, of cutting literally under it's own weight. However, in practice, we hold the saw firmly and this does inevitably exert some pressure despite ourselves. Lining it up correctly in the early part of the cut helps as I am sure you found out. Correcting a cut wandering off course in thicker timber is "challenging."

    You did well.

Hi Dogs. Just finished reading through your bench build. Loved it. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs. Everything came out looking beautiful.
