Bench with integrated table saw
Hi,
My workshop is a colourbond, I'm planning to go back to the 4.5 x 3m slab and build a wooden shed.
I plan to integrate my router and table saw into a wooden bench in the new shed. The router and saw should share the same fence arrangement.
How would I guide and lock the fences, I've seen an arrangement where the guides are on the front and back of the bench, is that the way to go, can I buy a solution to add to a bench?
What saw are people buying in Oz for this, essentially I want the guts of a quality 12" table saw with safety features?
I just don't have the space for a H&F SB-12 and getting something that big and heavy down to the back of the garden would be a nightmare.
Thanks.
Richard

saw bench
For a saw that could be integrated into a bench I would think you'd want a contractor style saw, although not many of those would be 12". The Chinese Jet copy that carbatec sell is 12" but the fence and everything else would leave a lot to be desired.

I have a Makita 9 1/4” circular saw mounted as a table saw in a work bench. My fence is agricultural but accurate and locked in place with a quick action clamp.
I posted some photos some time ago but don’t know if they were lost when the photos disappeared.
My router is in another cabinet though and had its own fence.
I will try and find the links in this site. If not, I can post some photos in a couple of days if you want as I’m in hospital at the moment.
Cheers.

Just random thoughts here.
You can integrate your router table and table saw into an Incra system: INCRA TOOLS :: Precision Fences :: Table Saw Combos That will provide you your fence system, and you won't have to worry about the quality of the fence.
12" saw? Most common is 10" - not sure if 10" is OK for you or you have a particular reason to go 12" (maybe depth of cut) - if so, 3Hp minimum - anything less won't be able to do a 12" blade justice.
What I did was to get the 96" Incra system, put it on a SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw and then build in a router table on the right side of the saw. Works quite well, but the price gets up there quickly - if you want a router lift (e.g. INCRA TOOLS :: Precision Fences :: Router System Accessories :: INCRA Mast-R-Lift II) and a dedicated router (AUK Tools woodworksupplies.com.au) you could easily be putting about $8000 down for the whole system.
One of the bigger challenges with table saws is that they need a fair bit of space to handle material in and out feed - particularly long stock.
The setup I've listed above is near 3m wide (to be fair, there is an Incra solution that is shorter, at 52"), so you might want to design a wide opening set of doors in your shed to allow for longer material outfeed (I have mine in a 6x6m shop, and it faces a 2.4m wide roller door that can be opened up for this purpose if needed).

Thanks everyone.
I'm looking at the SawStop Jobsite Saw 2100W now, it's just within budget and with the limited space in the shed I'm starting to think I should keep the saw mobile and maybe have a collapsable bench, any good ideas on this?
The Incra stuff looks great but it's pricey, I was thinking more DIY, embedding T-Track into the bench, any advice on this?
In my other thread New workshop ideas I'm thinking that I should have some large horizontal slit windows at bench height that can be opened to provide space for feeding in and out.

Good Morning Richard
Given the relatively small size of your shed have you questioned whether you really need a table saw? I'd love to have a Felder or Altendorf sliding panel saw but neither would fit in my 4.1x7.6 shed, plus $$$$'s issue.
And with a table saw, besides the saw space, you need infeed and outfeed room.
And to feed the saw you need space to store timber.
One viable option might be a good quality track saw plus some ingenuity. They can be incredibly versatile.
But we don't know what sort of work you plan on doing.
Cheers
Graeme
