Default Help in mounting a vice

I'm building a paulk workbench and want to mount a small vice to it.
I bought a cheap Craftright 175mm vice from Bunnings.

VIce mounting holes as shown. It will fit to the bench where the pink square is on the drawing.
The bench top is 17mm ply and the side is 12mm play. Not shown is the base which is also 12mm ply.

I image that these vices normally bolt to the bench top? I'd prefer not to drill that if possible.

At this stage, I'm thinking if I make a mount out of, say, 90x45 pine (or hardwood) to hold the vice and then attach that the side (pink bit) and base.

If you don't want to drill holes in your bench top, glue & screw a block of the right width under the top, then use coach-screws to attach the vise from underneath. The depth of the block would be calculated depending on if you want it level with the bench top or not. I prefer to have the vice jaw a bit below bench height and cover it with a wooden jaw liner - exposed metal has a nasty habit of coming in contact with cutting edges...

    Cheers,

A closer look shows I'll need to cut a hole in the 12mm ply side the size of inner face plate (170mm x 65mm) otherwise the first of the mounting holes will be too close to the inner surface of the play to be usable.
I'll be putting a pair of timber jaw liners as suggested so perhaps I can use the fixed one to mount the vice to the play and then use timber blocks inside to count it to the base and side of the bench.

Ray (wheelinaround) suggested a moxon vice which looks really easy to fit. It would have to fit in 600mm though as that's al the space available..

More thought required before I pick up the router and make holes!

    I was over-thinking this a bit.
To mount the vice, I only need to drill 3 holes for the screw thread and guide rods. I can reassemble the vice with the fixed face inside the box and fit a jaw liner to the moving face and another one to the side of the box.
This gives plenty of room inside the box to actually mount the vice.
