I'm looking for a bolt with a screw head
I have a couple of vices that are bolted to wood using bolts like the one in the picture. The problem is... either one of the vices didn't come with bolts, or I've lost two of them. Either way I can't find a replacement and need two of them.
The thread is a standard 5/16" bolt. But the top is a 45 degree screw head. Strange. The vice really needs this shaped head to match the bracket. I've find some bugle batten 14g screws that would probably work, but I would prefer to tap the wood and use a bolt than use a screw so it can be removed etc.
Any one know a supplier? Or what this type of bolt is called? My blog: ~ for the love of wood ~ - http://theloveofwood.blogspot.com/

Looks like a bog standard 5/16th machine screw to me, should be a standard hardware item, unless of course it has been hit by metrication. I suspect that you should be able to get a few in Zenith pack at Big B for about $3.50.
Intended to have a nut run down them or screw into a tapped hole in metal, not too sure about the holding ability when run into tapped wood. An alternative would be to recess a T nut from above and plug, or alternatively drill/tap into hardwood, toughen the thread with CA glue then retap to clean the thread, then run the screw in.

What you have there is a Flat Head Machine Screw. An alternative might be a Flat head Socket Screw, available from any good fastener supplier.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

That's a countersunk head machine screw, the length is measured from the top of the screw rather then under the head,as in hexagon headed bolts, set screws etc

I just checked and the ones I have are metric.
If you are still stuck then let me know because there is a friendly bolt guy up here where I go to get unusual nuts and bolts.
