    Default Jarrah Slab Workbench

Have been watching this forum for a little while now and and have been in need of a workbench for a lot longer.
Taking inspiration from you guys. and my brother in laws' marri workbench, i embarked on my project. Picked up some recycled Jarrah ($60 - cheap timber) and bought a planed slab.
Not one to be disuaded by foul weather. i built it in our living room over the weekend.
i just need a nice big workshop (its coming) to house it and to convince the minister for war and finance that i REALLY need a random orbital sander.
Could use some advice for finishing?
    Slab Dimensions 3000 X 720 X 40
    Bench height 900.
    weight - heavy

Get it out of the living room before using your new orbital sander.

Firstly catsteve _ welcome to the cubby. Good to have you here.

Very substantial bench. Hope the Slab doesn´t move about.

Jarrah for a work bench! You'r just showing off. Nice work - good luck with moving it.

How the hell do you find a SWMBO who will let you build something like that in the living room?

I make things, I just take a long time.

How are you going to move this 3m long 900lb monster out of the living room? Do you have big doors?

    Enjoy

Probably part of his cunning plan, "gee it's too heavy to move, dear. This will have to be my new workshop"

Looks like you got your heights and you weights mixed up their wongo.

The top by itself will weight about 130 lb and the rest about the same so my estimate is ~250 lb?

    Otherwise looks really good catsteve!
I would probably have added a few half lap joints to reduce possible rocking/wracking.

If you can get away with building that in the lounge room then you should be able to get the nod for any tools you like.
As for finishing boiled linseed oil mixed with turps is the usual for work benches.

    Amazing.

Now you have to ask yourself what is amazing. The fact that you built it so big with out a place to put it. The fact that you built it in the living room. The fact that your wife let you?
