Jarrah Workbench
Just finished my first ever workbench. 1800mm l x 875mm w x 880mm h
When I designed it the main criteria were that it had to be able to be dismantled easily in case we ever shift and yet be rock solid. Just had to be Jarrah, I also wanted a surface finish for the top that was easily able to be repaired in case of damage.
All the joints were trenched on my trusty Makita LS 1214 SCMS, apart from that the only other tools i needed to use were a hand drill and some clamps
The legs are 80 x 90 laminated from 3 pieces of 80 x30, The top was also laminated, on the bottom layer i used up leftover 80 x 19 floorboards and the top layer was 125x 19. Aprons are 125 x 30 and the bottom rails 80 x 30 .On the back of the bottom rails I glued 60 x 30 both for strength and to give me a 20mm ledge for the floorboards.
The vice is a Groz 175mm quick release from Carbatec, quality is fine apart from the cheap poxy plastic dog they've used, I'll change that to brass.
The surface finish I settled on was Beeswax/Pure Gum Turpentine/Boiled Linseed Oil in equal portions, I'm really pleased with the end result.Last edited by brian radalj; 15th March 2009 at 06:53 PM. Reason: photos didn't attach

That's not a workbench...more like a finely crafted dining table.
Top job.

Love jarrah. A realy nice looking bench. Bet it weighs a ton.

jarrah work bench
HI
Seems too good to be cutting and sawing on.What interested me was the finish and would it be hard enough to withstand wear and tear. Did you melt the beeswax into the other ingredients or is there a liquid bees wax ?
Regards Steve.
