Leg vice
Hi all.
I've almost finished my work bench (a Moravian design) and have found an issue on the leg vice.
Currently it's a Carbatec leg screw with some 4x2 pine as the chop. In use though I'm finding the chop flexes quite a bit so i must be clamping power.
Could i reinforce the existing chop with a hardwood 'lining' (for lack of a better word) or should i just accept i need to build a new chop?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Regards.
Adam

May be hardwood channel in the form of a U-shape that fits over the chop might work.

That was always going to flex. Far too thin especially in pine. You could add a similar or greater thickness of hardwood on the outside. That should sort it. The pine inner will be gentler on your work than the hardwood too.
