Meranti workbench (mystyle)
Heya everyone.
I'd like to share the workbench I made.
Here are some pictures of it :
1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg5.jpg4.jpg6.jpg
and in case some of you are patient enough to watch the video of its making, here's the link:
It is made out of Meranti wood which is one of my favorites because of the colours of the wood.
No screws or antything else has been used for the joinery except tenon-mortise + glue.
It might look quite oversized (especially for the place I have) but I do a lot of epoxy pouring and thus need a large platform where to do so.
The only regret I have is the lack of a tool well. Have though of it but I wasn't sure about its configuration (middle tool well or side tool well)...
Although it doesn't look that much of a traditionnal/commonly seen style, it reflects my style.
Looks more of a dining table (why not after all) but this is because there are no accessories added at this stage (in reality there are, see here :
).
Now, some questions still remaining unanswered given the lack of experience. Most of workbenchs have dog holes everywhere. Till now, I've only added a range of holes to use with the vise clamp.
Would you recommand drilling dog holes on the entire top? Do you see any other feature that might be usefull with this kind of workbench?
Any comment/suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
Cheers

Nice to see something substantial made out of meranti, as I have a good amount of it to do something with
A tasty looking bench you've made Xhinsy.
What finish did you use, its really nice.
Thanks for showing, be sure to give us an update on how you get on with it

Hi Tom,
Thanks. I will gladly give an update in the future.
Regarding the finish, it’s basically a homemade finish with beeswax, turpentine and boiled linseed oil. (Ex ratio I use: 50gr of turpentine, 50gr of linseed oil, 7gr of beeswax —> can be replaced with carnauba wax).
