    Question A question of anchorage.

About to build a simple but sturdy bench along the lines of that built by Catsteve. It will be made from a mixture of Brazilian timbers, namely Garapa,
perhaps some Tatajuba and Roxinha and will have a slab tp made from Angeline.

Th top will be a solid slab. 1800 X 600 X 40. The advantage of the Angeline is that it is dense, tuphph and very stable This timber is used for outdoor gear here because it is so stable.

I want to know the best way to anchor this top to my frame.

How about coach screws in counterbored holes?
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    Thumbs up

Had thought of that WW but it seems a bit sacrilegious. Had also thought of Dowels at different angles. That would also fit in with a lot of the big work done here where wooden "nails" or pegs are used.

Farm gates here are made from Roxinha (Purple Heart) and are held together with bolts ad wooden pegs, as above.

Why do they use Purple Heart? Its plentiful and the maker explained that if the bull charges the gate, his head will break before the timber does.

Completed gates sell for About $AU60/M/2 . Not bad! all timber is nicely finished and the workmanship is excellent.

Show off Hey Arthur, the weight of that slab will hold itself in place. Who you got in mind to help you lift it? Hope you bring some of that beautiful timber back with you when you eventually come back to Oz
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John
