Record 52 1/2 vice mounting
Hi All
I picked up a Record 52 1/2 vice from a second hand store the other day. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to mount it to my bench. It's got some braces on the backside of it that would seem to get in the way when mounting. Should I just chisel the bench away to fit them in? Kinda lost but super happy to have such a seemingly beefy vice for $50!

Yes, cut a recess in the bench.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I've just cleaned up mine which is ready for installation. It cost me $75. My father stripped it down and sprayed it with etch primer and I gave it a couple of coats of some custom turquoise industrial paint I bought for another project. Will be mounting it in due course!

Gareth, here is the post where I went through the motions of fitting mine. Lance's simplified Scandinavian bench

I’ve a spare one of these new in the box.
Want a couple for it.
My 40 year old one doesn’t want to slide in and out after a few daze so a quick clean up on the round bars and wax fixes it.
I possibly don’t have enough clearance made the bench and fitted it in Canberra, probably the moisture here has swelled things.
It bugs me but not enough to investigate what’s going on.

Clear out, one thing that causes mine to bind from time to time is the rear timber face that I installed. I just used pine, and if I've been pounding something over it the screw holes will elongate in the soft wood and force the timber down so that it rubs on the round rails, requiring me to loosen the screws and raise it a hair. In my case the fix is simple, just remove 5mm from the bottom of the timber face plate, but I've not bothered because I'm going to make a hardwood one. However I have a dreadful premonition that in five, ten, fifteen years I will still be planning on replacing it and will continue to make do.

How true that last bit Lance. I've got a few things been waiting years to be replaced.

Love it!

I bought the paint to spray an old bandsaw and got a little carried away. Love these sort of colours on the old stuff, it really accentuates old tools & machinery curves!
