Default Which side should be on top?

Which side of this end cap piece do you forumites think should be facing upwards?

    This one?

    Or this one?

I'm leaning towards the second but I'm having option anxiety so I'm looking for feedback.

Hi B. The first photo shows more interesting grain and that's what you'll be looking at every time you work at the bench?

Many thanks gents, after I posted the photos last night I started to lean towards the first option on two counts, firstly that the second looked a little fussy, and secondly the first option with its transition from lighter to darker offered a nice choice to have the lighter side against the maple top with it getting darker as it moved towards the wheel for the tail vise.

Your answers confirmed my suspicions and I thank you for that.
