Far out I have broken the hammer further above in previous posts. Now I've just added a gal pipe to the end of my other crow bar which my old man gave me and strong as an ox and bent it into the letter C haha

I think a new crow bar with some leverage is needed. Hmm stubborn nails. Unless I drill holes around it to loosen the timber then just put those section on the underside of the bench top.

If your drilling holes with pound shop metal drill bits around the nails screws, then either side looks best IMO to make a rectangular hole rather than square ones.

I use a cheap screwdriver for chopping further, and if you can get a vice grips to clamp on them, whilst getting a pry bar under the tool,
it might be a good idea for getting them out.

    Good luck with the bench

Thanks for that. So far the only way I've been able to get them out is by drilling holes all around the nail and eventually it comes loose.

I'll just rotate that side to be under the bench when laminating

Pain in the ass I tell ya. Never come across this style of nail before. Anyway only 6 left so I'm getting there

Cleans up very nicely. Well dried stock. Few more to go before glue up

They are Griplock nails. They screw in as they are driven. Remove by screwing out anticlockwise.
Sorry i'm late, just read the thread.

Thanks @rustynail appreciate that. I have removed them all now. Some came out easy enough others I had to drill out. All of it I can hide so no biggie in the end

The other side's are cleaning up nicely so should be good for a glue up soon. During the holidays o have a week of nothing but shed time so should be able to post some progressive photos

All docked and most of the sides have been jointed ready for doweling and glue up. Bit of effort needed to scrub down the top after the horrendous effort on the circular saw.

Nothing some beers and a scrub plane and jointer can't fix one night

Thinking of picking up some Jarrah lengths for the raised centre tool holder and end caps from Perth.

I think Oregon and Jarrah will be the contrasting theme of choice for this build

Decided to use the dowel max again for the dowel alignment for the top as it is glue up time.

Whole heap of scrubing off the top once it's all dry so while that's going I might start on leg and rails prep.

I'd like to have a dovetail joint from where the legs to the underside of the top join but not the whole way across just the sides of Jarrah I'll laminate on. Also dovetail keys for the endcaps, a nice feature I've always appreciated from other people's builds

Has been a while since I've had a chance to work on this. I actually advertised this for sale but thought it was a little rough. So I've started planing it all by hand to get it in more of a "bench kit" state to maybe try again.

This is just one half of the split top. Decent thickness and has taken a fair bit of effort to get it this stage but the HNT planes definitely help this effort. Legs are sorted now so time to move onto the lower rails and second half of the top
