Default Who's got a proper workbench with 3/4" holes in Vic East?

I'm looking for a tester who has a workbench between 1 3/4" and 3" thick on top with 3/4" round dog holes. The closer to Lilydale in Vic the better in case I have return to make modifications and come back to re-test.

The plan is to turn these some time this week

In to holdfast/hold downs, for one the the N.Z. Based forumites and want to make sure they work right before shipping them off.

I think you would be better just drilling a couple of holes in a bit of wood in that thickness range and testing at home. There will likely be a few tests required as you tweek the holding end.

I intend to do that. But I don't have a bench to actually put them to use ie see if you can plane a piece of wood etc.

I make hold fasts out of 16mm and 19mm bar and in my bench which is 4.5 inches thick I find the close fitting 19mm hold fast is best in close fitting 3/4 holes. The 16 mm hold fasts need a thinner bench top but work ok in a 3/4 hole. I mostly use the 16 mm hole fasts in my anvils.

Interested to see your design but I find for a hold fast with a low profile above the bench you need a closer fitting hole, otherwise something with Amore looping top is fine.

There's a whole thread on hold fasts on the forum somewhere.

Seem to find that getting 19mm bar is near impossible to buy where I am and have to forge down 20mm, though it makes for a better gripping shaft.

    Cheers

Yes I'm making hold downs/ holdfasts for woodworking. I'm going to try and make simple ones like the Gramercy design. I will experiment with doing ones with a more French design at some point, I.e. a jumped up corner and tapered flats to the holding arm section as this requires 3-4 times the effort and time.
I have the 16mm in stock which is why I'm trying that first, getting 5/8 or imperial in general is getting very difficult now.

I can't use hold downs on my anvil as I have an antique French anvil which has a side exiting Hardie hole rather than the London pattern which has a through hole in the vertical.

I looked at a few threads on the forum but they all seemed to be about finding suppliers or blacksmiths to make them, or I should say the inability. Then there was some on making wooden ones.

Thanks Matt. If I continue to make them I'd need to make a jig as there is slight variances in the angles but the foot is adjusted last so is still flat to the work surface tested in a 2" Thick hardwood plank.

    I understand what your saying
But would that be an issue"slight variances in angles"
Would most benches only need maybe two possible three.
There craftsman build not machine made .

Probably not mate but people are used to mass production and like things to match.
