Been a very busy week this week and I was completely fried by the end of it. Saturday was spent checking the vise position for the wagon vise, Seemed to spend a lot of time trying to work out simple things and I made a few easy errors so I've decided not to cut the timber till I have my wits about me.

At least I am forming a good picture in my mind of what needs to be done. I've marked out one end so I can cut it and get ready for the vise and end cap. Maybe tomorrow I can make a chop, end cap or deadman to slide along.

I have agree that's a smart plan. Have a clear plan before you start to saw.

Also, have you glued the top together? or did I miss something?

The cutting I am referring to is on the front skirt, removing the 17 x 1 3/4" for the wagon vice and the second piece for the screw. No glue up yet.

First glue up of #7 and #6 pieces today. Ran a Stanley #6 over the top first, then a scraper and finally a sand with 180 grit to rough it up a little for the glue.

I wound up using Titebond II. I wiped both sides with glue using a credit card then brought them together taking care to align the cut marks at one end. Then a clamp either end to get them level and a few clamps in the middle. Then, working outwards, more and more clamps were applied until I had squeeze out along the joint. There are one or two spots where glue did not squeeze out of the top join but since both were less than 25mm each I didn't worry about trying to put more in.

I'll be doing a pair at a time then some final preparation before joining them all together - except for the face piece - due to the wagon vise, that will go on last.

Since it is cold at the moment I'll leave it clamped overnight and scrape the glue off tomorrow.

Lots of clamps for this job, 28 in total.

A YouTube video of some bloke with things on his noggin sanding wood.

When does the video come out with you drinking some red as you sing sweet dulcet tunes?

I ran across this article when looking for clamp info How to Glue-Up Joints: The right number of clamps - Fine Woodworking. And from the size and length of those logs Groggys using for the top and the type wood I recon he better go buy a clamp factory.
