WIP - John's Workbench Mk2!!
Thanks for the compliments everyone. This was an enjoyable build, even if it did seem like it'd never get finished! I really appreciate everyone's input and advice, without you guys, I'm not convinced that I would have finished it...after all, I'd probably still be deciding on vice placement!
The weight of this bench, as it stands with vices, etc is: 190kg or 419lb.
(But I haven't decided if I'm going to put in a bottom shelf or not)

an inspiration
Hi John,
I must admit that i haven't been following this thread, in fact i just noticed it today while i was killing some time on the forum. This is exactly the sort of build i want to get started on once I have a shed to put it in, at the moment i would have to move the cars to the street which won't work.
Anyway i just wanted to congratulate you on completing your bench and say well done. I hope i get a chance to make something just as nice one day soon.
Cheers
Mat

Beautiful job John! That's a great workbench.
One question ... are you left-handed?
and one observation ... to chamfer the tops of the dog-holes, perhaps you could have butchered a round-shaft spade-bit and used the brace, or even made a steel plate that you could drop in the hole and turn by hand - like a rotating scratch-stock. I'm only thinking about it because I might come to the same issue eventually.
Cheers,
Paul.

Well done John! You now have a proper command and control station, a place for all the executive decisions, a place where........oh well you know what I mean.
Cheers, Bill
