Wood for Vise
Hi there. I have a block of hardwood that I'd like to cut down and fabricate into a vise for my bench. The outside piece is going to be about 10 X 7 X 7 centimeters. Does anyone have any thoughts on how the grain should run for the top face, or does it even matter?
Thanks for your ideas.

Hi Azbird,
those dimensions look a bit odd - they describe almost a cube. In inches, the block is about 4 x 3 x 3 which sounds small for a vise.
Regards,
Chris.

My mistake. It will be more like 12" X 3-3/4" X 2-3/4", with the 2-3/4" side facing up.
