Something Different...my new workbench
Well I hate to be so unoriginal but I have finished my new workbench ( finally ) and thought I would post a few pictures so I can remember what it looks like before I scratch / dent and generaly abuse it
I have made do with an old bench made of a solid core door etc...and thought I should finally bite the bullet.
The bench is made completely from recycled material ( apart from some nuts and bolts ) and the basic details are as follow,
Top is laminated 3 " thick Jarrah and runners are Jarrah, legs / base are Karri.
Vices are tail record 52 1/2 face record 53 with veritas dogs.
All Joinery is M&T with jarrah dowells and bolts on the runners to keep everything snug.
The top is actually 2 pieces as I could not even lift one side by myself so decided to make it more manageable by not glueing them together, and I would not like to guess as to the total weight of this bench but to say it is stable and doesn't move at all is an understatement

Who cares about original or otherwise - it is bloody awesome!!
I'm also dead envious of the space you have around it!
One question, have you installed a replaceable piece of apron for the benchside vice faces? Otherwise if they get damaged you have to replace the entire aprons.

Fantastic looking bench, it is great to be able to build such beautiful and functional furniture out of recycled jarrah, I hate seeing it go to landfill.

Thanks for the nice comments guys...
The bench is 2.8 m long , 800mm wide and 950mm high
I made it this size because it doubles as an assembly table and I prefer a higher bench for most of my work.
The apron is held on with Jarah dowells and screws so can be replaced if needed but to be honest at almost 40mm thick its going to take some serious abuse to have to replace it
My work shop is approx 3.5m W x 7.0 m L so is not too bad except I would love an extra bit of width ( keep it clean ) say an extra metre.

That is one solid mother. It sure will take a fair amount of abuse before anything needs replacing. Great work!

Great bench, but be careful - if war breaks out the air force will commandeer it for a runway!

What they said. You (and some others here) have inspired me to make the plan for my workbench longer. Yours looks about the right length, and it also looks fantastic.
