    Thanks guys.

I think the drawers are serviceable and should work well. They are not that attractive with the ply sides and back. I might fill the ends with solid timber panels. The back will be used to hang some bench tools so I will dress it up with solid timber hooks.

The rubber mat sounds like a good idea and there is some floating about in a drawer somewhere. Even now with just a few bench dogs in one drawer I can see how the matting would be good.

I threw a few bits and pieces off the benchtops into the drawers and they will definitely need partitions.
A bit of thought is needed so I can get best use of the drawers so the mess can build up for a while.

    Hi Scally,

Great job mate. Really like that Qld Maple.

Good tip on the mats Bob. I use old denim sprayed with WD40 but things still slide about when you close the drawer. Will have to get some of that rubber matting.

    Cheers

    Default workbench

I really like your workbench and as I have just finished making a new workbench for myself I was really interested in seeing the construction of your drawers. I too intend to make two boxes in the same manner and fit drawers just the same, it's great to see that they work so well. I do intend to make them shallower than yours but thats the thing with making your own stuff, you make it to suit yourself and it tends to be an ongoing process of modification, half the fun. The huon looks great, one of my favourites. My bench however is made from messmate and a red timber I'm not sure of ?jarrah ?redgum ?I dont know. I am about to start on the drawers so I thank you for showing me what they will look like, I think I will follow your lead and make the boxes in the same way and put some face wood on the drawers as you have. If I get around to it I will post some pictures, have to take them first.
    cheers

Hi Frank, You will find the bench drawers very handy.

Shallow drawers are a good idea and would look great with neat spaces for chisels, files and marking out tools.

I have cabinets near my bench with these tools so I didn't need the shallow drawers.

Mine will neatly fit that plastic boxes used to hold screws and small things which will be handy under the bench.

    Have fun making your drawers.
