    Default Workbench just finished.

    My version of many hours of research on the type of bench to suite me.

    Laminated top in Southern Mahogany 72mm thick 780 wide by 2 metres long stands 910mm high.
    Decided on the Veritas twin screw for a front vice and fitted a shoulder vice at the end with round dog holes. Still drilling holes to suite holdfasts in top and aprons.
    The base from Tallowwood,recycled power line crossarms 75mm square with wedged through mortice and tennon joints and pegged stopped M&T.
    Finished the top with boiled linseed oil and turps,still soaking up second coat.
    Lost count of the hours after 120 and spent about $850.00 on hardware and timber,thats with mates rates for the Mahogany.Still a lot cheaper than a shop bought one with the same fittings. Not that I would have bought one any way had too much fun building my own.

    I have more pics of different stages of the construction if anyone is looking for ideas for their own bench.

    I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

    That looks like a great bench AW. Why don't you just post a few more of the WIP pics as I'm sure we'd all like a look see at some stage. I like your choice of timber.

    Thanks for the comments lads I know what they mean when they talk about Bench Fever,had it for about six weeks straight till I got this baby finished.

    A couple of shot of the glue up I did it in lots of five at a time.That allowed the section to fit through my 13inch thicknesser before glueing them together.

    Hey Anglewood well done on the bench and nice work with the dove tail joints, very neat. I am going to build my own bench, I am wondering what size is the framing? I was going to use 100mm x 100mm framing but I'm now thinking it's a bit of over kill and it will cost a bit.
