Default Rose Engine up & running

In between laying patio slabs and other household chores I managed a few hours in the workshop and finished the rose engine, at least enough for a trial run.
Temporarily set upon the milling machine bed which accounts for the odd angle of the cutter frame.

There are a few problems to sort out, the drive could be a bit lower geared, looking at a worm & wheel for that, the cutter frame motor needs replacing, after 30 minutes I could make toast on it...
If you havn't seen them, there are some construction pics here.

OK, OK, the cutter frame is not on centre height

    Mark looking good

    What motor are you using??

Some of the fellows here have been using Ryobi grinder motor, or sewing machine motors

That turned out to be a very nice rose engine/OT lathe. You're going to have a ball playing with it, and no doubt will add more accessories along the way.
I appreciate you sharing your ideas.
    Thanks

    Mark,

Damn fine effort! do you do your own castings? Theres a very professional look to the whole construction and general finish.

Hughie and Ray...this is the first time I have even looked at anything remotely associated with ornamental turning. The machine looks like a Rube Goldberg contraption to me.

How about an OT 101 course on how it works for a dummy like me?
    Cheers,

Ed there are many sites dedicated to OT which you can spend time looking

This one has the most basic and in depth info and links OrnamentalTurning.net - The online resource for ornamental turning enthusiasts also see video links http://ornamentalturning.net/videos/index.html

Another place to see OT & Rose Engine stuff is here.
Plenty of info in the files and check out the gallery.
This is the provisional website of the guy who has been helping with my RE project.
