Australia Post parcels
I just posted several parcels of tools today and discovered that Aus Post are apparently trialling a flat rate regular parcel post to anywhere nationally if you use one of their pre-paid boxes or padded bags - maximum of 3kgs. I think the postage was about $14 + cost of the bag/box.

That's just about the cost of a standard 3kg express satchel.
You can also buy the satchels in small bulk quantities from Aussie sellers on Ebay cheaper than direct from Aust Post. Haven't quite worked out how that one works though but seems legit from the feedback.
cheers, Ian

I gave them away as they got too expensive and use Officeworks Mailman now. Sounds like they have dropped their prices to match them. For heavy stuff I use E-go couriers.

A plate rate prepaid 3kg satchel DIRECT FROM AUST POST costs $14.55, if you buy 10 they cost $14.35.
Ebay prices range from about $11 if you buy bulk to ~$15!

Pre paid satchel have been around for quite a while at least 5 - 10 years.
They come in 500g
3kg
And 5kg
And the same for express post, but obviously cost a bit more.

There was a time when I first started selling some wood here that I could get a Bx5 box, fill it to 20 Kg max and post it anywhere in Aus for under $20, Aus Post.Lasted for about 2 years.

AP used to do a point to point service where you could rent a wire container and load it at your leisure up to 600kg, they would drop it off and pick up and send it to the nearest business centre to the recipient. Some of us here used this to bring a full wire cage of Jarrah to Sydney and the all up cost was about $120. It ended the way all good things end, by lack of awareness so AP dropped it.

AusPost can't compete.
TransDirect.com.au and E-go.com.au beat them every time.
Comes with $1000 insurance, door to door and decent tracking.
Ego gladly do big/long/heavy, pallets, depot drop offs and multiple collections.
Haven't sent a parcel via AP in 5 years now.
