    Default Blacksmith made froes

My friend made me a froe and I thought he should make some more to offer to you lovely people here.
They are made from high carbon leaf springs and have been hardened and annealed twice. They are all sharpened in the middle and are much heavier duty than your standard froe.

    I have 5 available.
    1. Blade is 250mm long and socket is 40mm
    2. Blade is 250mm long and socket is 30mm
    3. Blade is 250mm long and socket is 30mm
    4. Blade is 200mm long and socket is 25mm
    5. Blade is 200mm long and socket is 25mm

They come with a 300mm long 44mm oak dowel for you to fashion into a handle.

Price is $110 each delivered. If you'd like one please specify which one in your comment as well as your direct message.

Also, open to ideas for other blacksmith made tools that are otherwise difficult to get that forum members would like to purchase.

    Paul

Are these sharpened to one side (for right handed use), or to the centre?

Id hold the Froe in my right, boink with the left.

Is this how they're set up?

I love the look of them

They are centre split. We debated how to orient them but if needed I'm sure my mate can make some more with a preferred grind on them if needed. This was the test batch in many ways, so to speak. One to see if anyone was interested in them besides myself and also a few other things like tempering, annealing etc. They came out really well. I havent done anything with the handle, just a blank, as I know some people like very specific handle shapes so we played it safe.

Paul, do you think your friend will make any more. If I’d seen these earlier I would have bought one, so I’d be keen. Maybe consider at a slightly longer option say 300mm with a longer handle. Anyway, we’ll done smithy!

I'd be up for one too if more came about - 250mm probably would be fine

I’ll be talking to Chris the Blacksmith tonight.

Just to make clear the measurements are for the length of the cutting edge not the total length (at least on the one I have left. I’m 99% sure it’s the same for the ones I’ve already posted).

Bevel grind is completely optional. He can do left, right or centre/split grinds and he can make the handle hole whatever diameter you desire.

Regarding handles, that is the last of my oak dowel that is thick enough. I’ll look into some options to procure more but might also have an option for supply your own handle.

I’ll leave a updated post tonight.

PS. I’ve just got my resin infusing setup running so I’ll be making some sheoak and ironbark? mallets in the near future to sell on here.

PPS My metal lathe is nearly fully setup and I’ll be making the Cosman hinge jigs to sell on here too.

PPS I’m trying to convince Chris to make some builders slicks for here also.

    Hi Paul

Let me know if more froes are made. 250mm and centre bevel.

    Thanks.

    Regards from Perth
