    Shop vacs are usually brushed motors, which are like mini aircraft in noise level, most dust extractors like these are usually an induction motor, which is orders of magnitude quieter, the rush of the air is actually louder in most cases than the motor itself.

    If ever you have a choice of an induction motor vs brushed motor, in probably most cases the induction motor will almost always be the better choice for a number of reasons.
