Default Carter Number 4 Smoothing Plane - New in Box

Carter handplanes are a feature of post world war two manufacturing in Australia.
They are a mixed bunch, and can range from very good to very ordinary.
This one is very good, with sidewalls of uniform thickness and a heavy sole.
The one thing that Carter hand planes had going for them was the quality of their blades. They chose to manufacture blades of greater thickness, and attention to quality was uniform throughout the Carter range.
Whoever made the blades for Carter planes knew what they were doing.
Apart from a honed secondary bevel on this blade, it is as it left the factory.
The body paint seems unmarked although there are age stains on the grey iron.
The handles are excellent and the rear is complete with Carter logo.
The lever cap shows a small patch of buffing of the chrome, otherwise it is very good.
The box is stained and not pretty at all, but it is complete.
This will be a good user plane, and in this condition would also suit a collector.
    $125 plus postage.
