Old chisels and some odds and ends
Well,
I have finally acquiesced that there are only 24 hours in a day, and with young kids around, you tend to be pulled in a different direction away from your hobbies.
I have held on to some old tools in the hope of restoring them and putting them to good use, that aint gonna happen!
I have a bunch of old chisels: titans, Robt Sorby, E.A Berg etc. I counted 23 in total.
I would rather sell as a set - $300 for the lot (about $13 a chisel) Some are worth more, some less.
I also have some hand planes and spokeshave (no7, no5, no4 and 151) looks like the lever cap on the no7 is not right. $250 for all 4.
A couple of old brades hammer heads (bolster and cross chisel) and an unknown old bolster from Italy $50
Warren and Brown 3220 tension wrench and 2 tesa micrometers $150
Marking gauge odds and ends. $15
Total for the lot: $765, if you buy the lot in one go i will make it $650
Let me know if you believe the price does not reflect the products. Happy to work it through.

Im guessing i have priced these too high (or there just isnt a market for old tools any more).
does $500 for the lot seem more reasonable?

Hi WoodWriggler
Could I offer the gentle feedback that I think for tools in need of heavy restoration and without particular cachet it's a bit high. I'd check ebay for comparison. In particular the plastic handle rusted out No 4 you'd see on ebay for very little as its evidently a more recent make. The No 7 has some worth.
Old rusted chisels without much info go for very little as buckets of them frequently go on ebay. A major reason is that without knowing the condition of the back, they can be a very painful to restore to useful order. An exception is sets with some collectability such as old blue Marples and EA Bergs.

Thanks cgcc.
I must admit, as i am going through a large garage clean-up, the priority was to list the tools without giving much attention to their condition. All the chisels have been sitting in an enamelled baking tray amongst the rafters of the garage, any rust should be at the surface only.
I understand that they do not look the best in their current condition. Maybe some light polishing with some 000 steel wool to show the extent of the rust and giver a bit more confidence to potential buyers?
Again, i am not offended by the feedback and comment re: what i have priced the tools and where that price range should be. I am happy to make adjustments to the prices and for people to make an offer (obviously i would prefer to sell in one lot as opposed to dribs and drabs).
These tools need to go to a home where they will be put to use (as opposed to sitting in between my garage rafters again).
Thanks.

Hi Mountain Ash,
The gauges are yours for $40. Let me know if you would prefer shipping or pickup.
Everyone else: I have been busy for the last week so i havent had a chance to update this space. Ill give the chisels a bit of a scrub with some steel wool and take some photos (i will update prices soon too).
Open to any offers, especially for the lot.

UPDATE:
I have done some work on a titan chisel (as an eg. 15 minutes first using a drill wire wheel and then a drill mounted scouring pad).

I need these tools gone.
$250 for the lot (minus the gouges which will be going to Mountain Ash this week).

G'day wriggler, I'll take the remaining items off your hands for $200 if you include postage to 3672?
Cheers
