    Default Handplanes - US Transitional - Various

    Transitional handplanes were marketed around the turn of the 20th century with the advantages of the newer cast iron planes - depth adjuster, lateral adjuster etc - but with the wooden body that craftsmen were used to, and still demanded. There were plenty of manufacturers - Union, Sargent, Fulton and others. But the largest and most prolific was Stanley.
    Here are some Tansitionals in good to excellent condition for you to consider.

    Stanley Bailey Number 23.
    9 inches long with a 1-3/4" blade, it is comparable to a long Number 3 smoother
    Good user condition

    Stanley Bailey Number 24
    8 inches long with a 2" blade, it is comparable to a short number 4 smoother
    Exceptional condition

    Stanley Number 25
    A very rare low angle block plane - super rare in this condition.
    9-1/2 inches long with a 1-3/4" blade

    Fulton - comparable to a Stanley number 3
    8-1/4 inches long with a 1-3/4" cutter
    Not as common as the Stanley Bailey number 23
