Default HNT Gordon A5 Jack Plane

I got this plane last year and have tried to get the hang if it but it's just not for me.

It has a HSS blade and I got Terry to add the brass insert at the front of the mouth (see photo 4). This enables the plane to make a very fine cut. The RRP for this plane is $375 (with brass insert) + post postage.

Asking $300 including post within aus.

    Thanks

    Peter

I would be interested to hear what bothered you about the plane. I have been thinking of getting one but have never used a wood plane
    thanks

    Hi Matches,

I guess I just prefer the depth adjustment of the Lie Nielsen planes that I also use. The one thing I will say is that with its 60’ blade angle it was fantastic on difficult timbers.
It is a beautiful plane to use it’s just not me.

    Thanks,
    Peter

The preference for depth adjustment is that just due to the need to tap the blade into place vs a threaded based adjustment on the lie Neilson?

And another question if you don't mind, so typically the jack plane is used for rough sawn work to get a flat board, since you have had the grass insert added it can also be used as a smoothing plane also?
