Large infill shoulder plane
This is a beautiful shoulder plane. 8" long and 2 1/2" high (at the centre), with a 1 1/4" wide high carbon steel blade.
I restored this plane completely in 2007. The story is here: A few years ago I bought an infill shoulder plane that was advertised on an internet site as a Norris
Why sell it? Simply because I have a Large Veritas and I am downsizing my tool collection. This is too good a plane to leave on the shelf.
I do not know who made it. There is no name. It has the look of Spier's work. The dovetailing is sublime ...
The brass pins were originally screws (again, this is Spier's style), and I replaced them with brass screws, which were filed flush.
The infill looks like Mahogany ...
The mouth is minute!
The blade is pretty full, however I suspect that it is a replacement as it was quite short when I got the plane. I lengthened the shaft and added a sneck for easing it out of the body.
Everyone thinks of shoulder planes for tenon shoulders. A wide plane like this can also do tenon cheeks. But my favourite use is to clean up rebates, which is possible as the body/sole is square ...
Price: $155 (postage is extra).
