Default Japanese chisel set (of four)

I have a four chisel set of Japanese oire nomi ... bench chisels. Sizes: 9mm, 12mm, 18mm and 24mm

I know that two ... possibly three ... of these are Iyoroi. They are all mid-range chisels, cost around $65-70 each about 20 years ago.

The reason for selling them is that they are not used. I have many other chisels, and collect and use Kiyohisa. The chisels here are first class, really very good, and better than new. How can I say that? Because Japanese bench chisels are essentially a kit when purchased. One has to not only flatten the backs and, of course, sharpen them, but also set the hoops. Everything that needs to be done to the chisels has been done. Plus the Oak handles have been cleaned and re-finished with Shellawax (to waterproof them when sharpening). These chisels have been used, but that is a good thing since sharpening a few times essentially assures you that the blades are passed the brittle area, and will not chip.

These backs have full hollows (a good sign, since it shows that they have been honed correctly). For those who do not know how this works, the hollow will recede when the back is lapped. In other words, the hollow does not reach the edge.

30 degree bevels, perfect for chopping. These chisels are very sharp ....

The hoops have been set ...

    Ready for postage ...

The set is $160. Postage is extra, but likely to be around $10 across Australia.

    Regards from Perth
