Default Japanese Chisels - KIYOHISA Set of 10 Oire Nomi: Very Rare

    Good day folks,

I am regretfully selling an extremely rare set of Oire Nomi (Bench Chisels) made by Kiyohisa (the blacksmith is Watanabe San).

If you're reading this, you most likely know what they are.

I cannot say that they will grant the user the hand skills of a Roentgen and instantly turn you into a master, but I can say what they are - the best Japanese chisel made today, hence they are so highly sought after.
Kiyhohisa has a reputation within Japan that is unshakable and is the choice of many cabinetmakers and carpenters who use them to put food on the table and it is near impossible to get them outside of Japan because the locals snatch them up.

These are perhaps the hardest to get chisels currently in production. When the order was placed, it was a 5 year waiting list. This has since grown (I actually believe he is no longer taking orders) and as Watanabe San has numerous health issues and is in his late 70s, even if you can find a way of getting on/jumping the que on the list it doesn't guarantee that you will get them before he passes away.

This is a complete set of 10 Oire Nomi chisels, unused and still wrapped up. It is rare to find a single brand new Kiyohisa chisel, let alone a matched set.

They have white oak handles and are recent forgings that have a "cold" heat treatment. They are forged from old stock White Steel #1 billets. The forge weld lines and file work is unbelievable and the ura (hollows on the rear) are perfectly formed and symmetrical as you can see in the photos. I couldnt believe how well it is done on the 3mm chisel.
The chisels are still in their wrapping and the hoops are not "set", so you cant use these out of the box - if you use Japanese chisels you would be aware of this.

    I am asking $4000Aud.
The chisels are located in Melbourne.

Please, if you are serious, don't hesitate to ask questions or for more photos.

I'm not selling these to turn a profit....there are far easier ways to do that, than wait years for a niche product. The only reason that I am selling these so that I can get more pressing tools for my workshop. I don't intend on pushing anyone into buying them so please respect that and lets all be positive

Thanks for the time in reading my post.

    Good day folks,

Just marking this item as "Sold - Pending" as the chisels have garnered interest on another platform.

If anyone believes I have marked this incorrectly, please let me know so that I can rectify it - this is quite literally the first time I have sold anything on this forum.

Thanks for your understanding and time,

    Siggy
