    Default Jointer - Sherwood 6"

Up for sale is my 6" Sherwood benchtop jointer. Look here for manufacturer's specs https://www.timbecon.com.au/planing/...ch-top-jointer

I have had this since it was new but have not used it since I got a Carbatec 8" longbed jointer which I converted to helix cutter. I am relocating soon and this is the first thing I have identified to pass on to a new home where it can hopefully get some love instead of sitting on a shelf in the back corner.

It is very solidly constructed and as such has good performance for a small machine but it is quite heavy. I used to be able to lift it by hand but now I use an engine crane.

It has not had any real serious use but has been used to straighten pieces up to 2 metres long, but is of course more suited to smaller projects. It would suit a smaller workshop or boxmaker.

Because this item is still in production, blades, belts and other parts and consumables are readily available and should be for years to come.

Pickup from Hoppers Crossing or I may be able to deliver in the Melbourne area by negotiation.

    Asking $250.00

Well I thought that around half the price of the new item was pretty reasonable for a second-hand item in good condition, but no bites at that.

Soooo - Any interest at $200?

    ok, how about $150?

If there's no bites at this price I can always put it on the shelf under the new workbench as ballast.

That's less than a third of the price of a new one and it's in perfect working order. That is as cheap as I will go.

This is exactly the same as the Carbatec one I had before I also upgraded to a large planer, and at $150 it's dirt cheap. They are quite a well built machine and fairly powerful. I'm amazed it hasn't gone.

I agree about the weight, they are surprisingly heavy, which is what you want really anyway.

    cheers, Ian

Finchyz, I am trying to send you a PM about pickup arrangements but your inbox is full. Please clean it out so I can contact you.

    Finchyz,

You cleared one PM from your box which allowed you to PM me, but it also filled your box back up again, so I cannot PM you still.

The jointer is now on its way to a good home.

In negotiating the sale the inadequacy of the Forum PM system and its mailbox size restrictions for members with low post counts was proven once again.

Is it any wonder Facebook groups are thriving and the forum is diminishing?

Not really. 5 messages is tiny... I can't see these days when bits and bytes are so cheap that it'd impose a high cost to increase that. But I somewhat disagree that a FB group could come close to replacing this forum, but I am new and try not to use FB much so may be biased....

What is this facebook you speak of? ;-)

From someone who well remembers tweaking the initialisation string of a 2400 baud modem to jump on the "new-fangled" dial-up!

    cheers, Ian

I can still remember the excitement of typing in the line commands to download the original "Netscape Navigator" The internet has not been the same since.
