Default Marking gauges (matched pairs)

These gauges are matched pairs, one pin & 0ne cutting gauge. They also have a complementary matching marking knife:

P1. Hairy Oak (Allocasuarina inophloia), medium size. $120 H-oak m.jpg

P2. Macassar ebony (Diospyros sp.), medium size $120 Mac ebony pr m.jpg

P3. Black wattle (Acacia sp.), full size. $140
These have a subtle fiddleback figure and a nice lustre that many acacias have when polished Black wattle pr.jpg

    P4. Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla), full-size. $140 Brigalow.jpg

    P5. Lancewood (Acacia shirleyi), full-size. $140 Lancewood.jpg

P6. Solomon Island ebony (Xanthostemon melanoxylon) $130
This is a beautiful, highly tactile wood with the texture of ‘real’ ebony. I would have asked a premium for these but there is a tiny drying check on the top edge of the pin gauge (you might be able to see it if you enlarge the pic). It’s barely visible & unlikely to ever be a problem, but I feel I should discount them a bit. SIE.jpg

    Hi IanW
Are these something that you make regularly? Is there any way to go on a wait list for your next batch (or pay for a made to order one?)
Some of the nicest tools I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the kind words micmcg but I'm afraid I only make them very irregularly, when I happen to have scraps of suitable wood & time. I'm flat out dealing with a bunch of dead trees in my yard atm, and not getting much shed time at all, so I have no idea when I'll be able to make any more. Give me a prod around the end of the year, I just might have something available by then, but no promises......
    Cheers,
    IW

Congratulations to all of you on your purchases. What a wonderful gift for Mother's Day. I feel sure the other half will be thrilled except for LTR, because she is keeping the Macassar Ebony for herself .

In all honesty, that is a wonderful combination set. Well done Ian and thanks for making these objects available to the Forum. The speed of subscription is a testimony to how much your work is valued.
