The Record #778 moving fillister rebate plane.

What makes this Record #778 so much more desirable than a Stanley #78 or the Record #78 is that it has the best fence of the three, along with better blade adjustment than the Stanley.

I had had this plane for a long time. It has been on the shelf since I acquired the Veritas Skew Rebate Plane around 2008. It has been unused since, and so it now needs to go to a new home.

One of the upgrades I made back then was to add a O1 or W1 (not sure which) blade from Lie Nielsen. At that time they made replacement blades for Stanley and Record planes. This is a beautiful blade, about twice the thickness of the original blade (which is included). It add stability, not to mention getting frighteningly sharp! And very little backlash.

Please note that the LN blade is no longer available, and would cost about $95 today.

The important issue is how well this plane works. It works very well.

Here it is rebating Tassie Oak.

Issues? Well, the fence is a little tight - I do not recall it being so. Probably needs a little wax. I slides cleanly, nevertheless. The other is that the brass is showing on the depth stop screw. That's it.
