Hi Elan,
Is there a slight chance that I should read your reply as some sort of apology?
Nowhere in the posts does it say the saw was sold to Ian.And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Sometimes buying and selling on the forum is a tough gig. "I'll take it" means the person doesn't want to inspect it, they just bought it. I'm only a bush lawyer but in my opinion that's a legally binding contract and unless there's been misrepresentation, it's solid.
Sellers try to do the right thing by everybody; that I understand. However it could be stated that "sold pending inspection" shouldn't really mean "sold". It means "I'll buy it if I can reassure myself that it's OK". If someone else jumps in and posts "I'll take it", then the careful bloke misses out.
I don't think our Beloved Leader" would disagree.

What you actually saw (and misinterpreted) was me calling an item Sold, and using the actual name of the original poster of the ad. I know 'Ruddy's' name is Ian, because over the last few weeks he has been offering some beautiful tools for sale at very generous prices, including shipping. Many other members, including myself, have benefited from his offerings.
Then, upon realising that someone else had beaten me to the punch, you saw me forfeit my statement of 'Sold' and make sure that the person commented above me knew that I wasn't trying to cut their lunch.
So you actually saw a couple of genuinely nice people, trying to help each other out and not be rude to each other. It would pay you to assume people are being kind, rather than assuming people are out to betray each other.
Stay calm and work wood.
Big love [emoji120]

Hi Riverbuilder.
Is that an expression of interest? If so you are second in the queue after Elderwood 86 inspects the saw next week.

Someone selling for someone else and someone posting for someone else and maybe someone buying for someone else. Whew - I’ll just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

I retract all previous accusations as I misunderstood who was messaging whom about what and apologise to everyone involved for any offence caused.
I'll be leaving now.

I think that part of the problem is that over the years there have been quite a few instances of people who have done the wrong thing either through honest ignorance or through pure greed.
I can understand how easy it would be to see what happened here and think "here we go again".
Most sales on this forum are conducted between honest, well-meaning people, but I, personally, have been caught up a few times in cases of blatant disregard of the rules by unscrupulous sellers.
Even so, that has been a small percentage of my transactions and I while I may have unfairly missed out on some good buys as a result I have never actually lost any money.
The system is only as good as the participants.
It's not perfect but it's what we have and it's far better to deal here than on EB or GT. Lets look after what we have.I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

Just to make it clear, elanjacobs post has trashed my reputation. I now have trolls like Lappa insinuating on other posts that I am doing private deals using private messages.
I think the lesson here is for those keyboard warriors to engage the brain before hitting the keyboard.
I hope this ends the matterAnd my head I'd be a scratchin'

Not trolling. Just stating fact. These are your posts re gouges for sale which is the thread I mentioned “Private sales now?”. Where is the statement in my post stating you where doing it by private messages?
#Post 15
.
“!/2” spindle gouges withdrawn”
then 2 posts later
#post 17
“Hi Wavelink. Just need a couple of days to see if the 1/2” gouges are taken privately.”
so so were you giving them away privately or selling them privately?

Not trying to upset people but I fail to see what the problem is if people he knows are aware he's selling some tools in a forum and express an interest in them directly to him external to the forum.
It's not like he's doing something underhanded via PM's with members, he simply has other parties/acquaintances interested. I don't see that they should have to create an account on here just to express interest or buy them if they know him directly.
And I really think people could cut him a bit of slack, as I understand it he's selling all or the bulk of these tools for a widow, and I don't know how the hell he's keeping on top of it all with the sheer amount he's doing. So unless he lives under a rock and has no friends, it would be extremely unusual for this quantity of tools not to perk the interest of friends/acquaintances directly.
cheers, Ian
