Some other setting-out tools
I was plagued by a chronic shoulder injury for most of this year, & only able to do light work in my shed, so I filled in some time making a few batches of 'little' tools & things.
So here are some stocking-stuffers for you to consider.
First, some dovetail markers:
After making & using various styles of dovetail templates, this is the one I find most handy for general cabinet work. It combines the two most commonly used tail angles (9:1 & 6:1). The stocks are about 19mm square and 75mm long, with inlaid brass wear-strips. The blades extend 36mm each side of the stock, plenty enough for the vast majority of dovetails you are likely to set out. The blade is about the width of a typical drawer tail, & a handy reference when laying out tails.

DT2. Queensland Walnut (Cryptocarya palmerstoni) $25DT Qld Walnut.jpg
DT3. Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa)$25 DT Cocobolo.jpg
DT4. Ebony (Diospyros ebenum)$25 DT Ebony.jpg
Marking Knives
Derek Cohen gave me a knife similar to these many years ago, & it quickly became my favourite marking knife for routine setting-out. The woods are all hard, fine-grained species that take a very tactile finish. The thick end is ~15mm diameter for a comfortable ‘pencil’ grip. The blades are cut from an old circular saw blade, which is tough, but not as hard or brittle as high speed steel (and easier to re-sharpen!).

The woods are (L to R):
1. “Ebonised” River oak (Allocasuarina cunninghamii)
2. Bull oak (A. leuhmanii)
3. Hairy oak (A. inophloia)
4. She-oak (A. torulosa)
5. Tulip oak (Argyrodendron sp.)
6. Budgeroo burl (Lysicarpus angustifolius)
7. Qld Walnut (Cryptocarya palmerstonii.)
8.Western Rosewood (Acacia rhodoxylon)
$15 each
And if you are really keen, here's a coupe of small sliding bevels. I amde one of these some years ago & find it very handy for small work. For size comparison, here they are beside a "standard" Stanley 25: Small SBs.jpg
SB1. Hairy oak (A. inophloia). Stock 18 x 16 x 105; brass blade 120 x 18SB HO sm.jpg
SB2. Western Rosewood (Acacia rhodoxylon) Stock 15 x 14 x 85; brass blade 75 x 15.SB W_R-wd.jpg
Choose what you want & post the number below, then PM me to arrange where to send it, etc.
Cheers,
Edit: Woops, when I cut & pasted the Sliding Bevel descriptions I left off the prices. They have been bought regardless, but for the record, SB1 is $30 & SB2 was $25IW

Sorry Tony, both of those items have gone already. I've just struck through all items that have been claimed- the only one remaining at this point (7:50 PM) is the Tulip Oak marking knife....
I'm trying to work through all the PMs & sort out the people who doubled up (& already got myself confused in one case!), so hang in there, please. I'll get the stuff sent off Monday morning & send you the payment details as soon as I have the postage for each lot.
Cheers,IW
