Default Stanley 51 & 52 chute board and plane (USA)

Hello wood working forum! I have signed up here to hopefully move an old possession to a more suitable home. I am doing my best to get this to a good person without using big marketplace sites where fees really do a number on both buyer and seller.

Overall wonderful condition for a plane around 100 years old. The wood handle is clean and the japanning is near perfect. Unlike many, the frog on this one is fully intact. And, like many, it does not have the hold down or T pin. The iron has plenty of life left, and the moving parts function pleasingly and as intended.

I am located near San Francisco, California, USA. I am hoping to get $1800 USD but I will consider offers. NOTE: The price is what I would like to have in my pocket, at the end of the day. I really don't know how diverse the geographical background of WWF users is. Ideally someone could come pick it up or I would drive it to them if they're nearby. But I WILL ship, in which case the method of payment and shipping is going to have to be discussed based on where the interested person is.

Thank you very much for looking! Please ask me questions if you have any.

Yes I think the price is high. The conversion from US$ to AU$ is not good at the moment. Plus the cost of shipping/postage to Australia is also very expensive.
Your US$1800 is very near AUD $2700. Add to that, I'm guessing, another $150 for shipping/postage.
However it looks in very nice condition, so I'm sure collectors will be looking closely.
    Good luck with the sale.

    Hello stanleu51

I'm presuming you don't realize this is an Australian Forum. So probably not going to make too many jump up to buy or make an offer as the freight costs alone will be in the hundred(s) of $'s and we deal in AU $'s not US $'s, making your price currently around $2,650 + freight cost and other charges.

However, having said that, we do have a reasonable number of US and Canadian members who may be interested.

Don't be too impatient. Maybe one of your fellow countrymen/women might show some interest but most don't seem to look at the Market Place because of, well.... the above. It's an Australian Forum.

Good luck. You never know who's following it.

Thanks for the input, I guess you're right my price is high in AU $. I was sort of hoping someone in the US might see it. I saw that this was an Australian forum but this was also the only one that seems to allow a newbie to make a classified ad (which I appreciate).

I'll let it sit here for a bit then. Anyone have a suggestion where else I might try? Thanks again.

I'd say jump on ebay and see what the completed prices are and then sign up to sawmillcreek to sell it.

I own a #51/52 and know how heavy these are. International shipping would be very expensive and only likely to be considered for a pristine and complete package.

I would consider Craigs List, and the classified sections of WoodNet and Sawmill Creek. Perhaps Festool Owners Group (FOG), who tend to have money to burn.

    Add those other charges:
    • Freight - $150-250,
    • Customs - 5% of FOB price, if levied,
    • GST - 10% of landed cost, including freight, Customs, etc.

And the cost is approaching A$3,300.

Also Jim Bode Tools has one for US1,175 and he assesses the condition to be "extra fine", possibly the same as the OP's offering. Jim is renowned for the objectivity and accuracy of his discriptions, but not for discount pricing. Perhaps the OP's price expectations are a little optimistic
