Suhner 1550w router spindle
I have available a brand new router spindle made by Suhner in Germany. A high quality made unit, wired for 240v 15amp single phase.
Specs are:
Input power: 1.550 Watt
Speed infinitely variable: 3,500 - 30,000 rpm
Torque: 0,33 Nm
Voltage: 240v
Collet chuck: 1/4” and 1/2” adaptor collet supplied.
Weight: 2,85 kg
Has only been turned on to test, never done any work as was a spare. Fits nicely in current Jessem lifts or any lifts that can hold a round adjustable bracket spindle. Only selling as I have changed my setup to a VFD spindle option.
Cost $650 shipped, asking $350 + post or can pickup in Doncaster.

Hi Sapherion,
I'm interested. Just a few questions - this is obviously a quality machine - have you measured the runout with a bit in the collet? Also, what do you find the advantages are of changing to a VFD and spindle? Thanks

Hi mate,
I haven’t measured the run out, but this is my 2nd Suhner spindle I’ve used. They are designed for heavy duty industrial grade cnc work and runs very quiet and cool. I dare say the run out would be absolute minimal but you are welcome to bring your gauges and measure when you test it out.
As for the vfd spindle, I couldn’t tell you spend more time on it!
There are lots of reviews online about it, I know people are deterred from the fact that you have to watercool them.
Cheers

Ok, I'd expect the runout to be minimal too. I live in QLD though (no lockdown atm, yay!) so wouldn't be able to measure it before purchase. So were you happy with the performance of this unit in a router table? Any drawbacks that you found?
I have no experience with VFD spindles (but I do have a VFD running an induction motor), but as I understand it, yes, some are water cooled, but others are air cooled.

Also, you mentioned it is wired for 15amp - it was a bit hard to tell from the photo but does it have a 15amp plug with the larger earth pin or a 10amp plug? I'm not sure that a 1550W input would need a 15amp plug as I assume it's a brushed motor.

Yes it is a 15amp plug with the large earth pin.
I have been using a similar model in the suhner range previously and a number have people have commented how quiet it runs. Never skipped a beat and what I like most is there was never loss of power even when pushing dense timbers thru the bits.
See below how it was mounted also.

Thanks Sapherion, sounds like a great unit but on further reflection I'd prefer one that takes a 1/2 inch bit natively. So I'll pass this time and leave it for someone else.
Thanks

Hi Sapherion,
Can you advise what the diameter of the spindle body is and does it take a ER collect?
I want to check whether it will fit my cnc.
Thanks!
Nick
