Default Veritas Detail Rabbet Planes: set of three planes

It is once again time to rationalise the tools seldom used. Here is a set of three rebate (Rabbit ... ugh!) planes in 1/4" (6.35mm), 5/16" (8mm) and 3/8" (10mm). They are essentially new - perhaps used once or twice - as I have preferred other tools for the tasks in which they excel.

This is what Veritas have to say:

    "
These slender pocket-size planes allow fine, controlled cuts in areas you could ordinarily trim only with a chisel. With very narrow soles, they are also useful for cleaning dados or grooves.

Comfortable and easily manoeuvred, they are relatively tall to provide a good gripping surface and have an upswept palm rest for registration in the hand. The ductile cast iron body has a fixed mouth, a 3" long sole, and is accurately machined and ground.

The low 15° bed angle combined with the 30° blade bevel provides a 45° cutting angle. The lapped blade is made of O1 tool steel. A brass, one-piece lever cap/palm rest holds the full-width blade in place.

Available in five widths, 1/4", 5/16" (8mm), 3/8", 6mm, and 10mm; sold separately or in sets."

Here is a little more from Veritas:

"The design of the Veritas® Detail Rabbet Plane is loosely based on both thePreston and Clifton 400 shoulder planes. As an addition to our shoulderplane line, the detail rabbet plane is primarily useful for small trimmingtasks where a narrow chisel would often be used. It is handy for getting intotight spaces, as well as for shooting the shoulders of tenons, cleaning up thebottom of dados or grooves, and chamfering (breaking) sharp corners oredges. The plane has a fixed mouth and features a relieved throat to alleviatechip packing. The 3" long ductile cast iron body is accurately machined andground so that the sole and sides are fl at and square, allowing the plane tobe used on its side for shooting end grain. The 15° bed angle combined withthe 30° blade bevel results in a cutting angle of 45°. The full-width O1 toolsteel blade is held in place with a tongue, which functions as both a handleand a lever cap. The plane is available in fi ve widths (6mm, 1/4", 5/16"/8mm,3/8", and 10mm)."

This set from Carbatec would be roughly $400 (but are out of stock, anyway). I want $285. Postage is likely to be $12 around Oz (prepaid satchel). I should have the boxes, in which case they will come in them.

    Regards from Perth
