    Default Veritas Mortice Chisels

I have four essentially unused Veritas mortice chisels for sale. These are excess to my own collection, and I need to thin my herd. As many know, I have been testing tools for Veritas for many years. The chisels here were pre-production items for road testing. This involved testing steel (A2 vs PM-V11), and handle diameter. I have no idea what the steel is here - too far back in time now - but I will state that my report to Lee Valley was that I ran out of wood before either steel type dulled. These are truly awesome mortice chisels.

These are superior mortice chisels. The blades are beautifully made, with sharp edges (to clean up the mortice walls) and very fine trapezoid profile. I sold my collection of vintage English oval bolstered mortice chisels as well as the Ray Iles version I owned after using these.

There are 2 x 1/2", and 1 each of 1/4" and 3/8". One of the chisels does not have a hoop, but so what - three of the ones I have do not either. There handles are torrified Maple, and tough as old boots. Here are my mortice chisels (not for sale!) ...

    These are for sale:

The handle of the 1/2" on the far right has been shaped (slight side flattening to create a profile a little more like a oval bolstered style. This was possible as it was pretty thick to begin). Send it back if you don't like it - but I am positive that you will like it.

    A better look here ...

I have been trying to come up with prices. There are none available in Canada and the world at this time. Lie-Nielsen Australia sell their mortice chisels for $273 each. The Woodworks (Sydney) sell Veritas bevel edge chisels for an average of about $230 each. Dieter-Schmid (Germany) have the Veritas mortice chisels on their website for an average of about $235 (add on shipping), but they do not have stock.

Cost: $190 each (excluding postage). Will combine postage for more than one.

    Regards from Perth

The three hooped mortice chisels are sold. Remaining is the unhooped 1/2" chisel. Do not be put off by the fact there is no hoop - 3 of mine also do not, and few mortice chisels actually do have hoops. This is a truly fantastic chisel.
