Only for my own info, would you know the brand of the wooden handled files?

I was not able to track down the maker of the rasps but I know quality when I see it and I would bet those three rasps alone would have cost $70 (without postage!)

AUD $70 (without postage) Ha, Ha

To my eye the three wooden handled rasps look to be hand stitched and while probably not made by Herdim are likely valued at around 50 Euro EACH.

Ian's deal was more than a steal

I was as curious as woodpixel but took Ian's word for it since the tools he's offering are quality. I haven't had a rasp (apart from a Shinto) and files either, so that helped made the decision.

I transferred the payment a couple of days ago, Ian. Not sure if you received my message, I couldn't find it in the sent items folder.

Thanks again for your time and effort, Ian.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but would any of the files be suitable for jointing a hand saw (~8tpi)?

They are so similar to the Auriou and the Liogier rasps except the handles are different.

to my eyes they look more similar to Herdim hand cut rasps fitted with Ulmia tool handles, but I am possibly wrong.

Auriou and Liogier rasps appear to have a much more pronounced point at the end away from the tang.

I was going to buy them... dammit!

edit - pretty sure these are the fine medium course Narex hand stitched rasps.... rehandled.

Andy B - if you ever wish to offload those....

I think you can be well pleased with your purchase. As to jointing handsaws I am sure at least one of those files will be more than suitable (ahem, that's a silly statement: make that suitable) and I would tend to use one with a finer cut.

This thread on saw sharpening aids (and jointers) may be of some help to you. In particular I would draw your attention to post #26.
