I paid a visit to Sapherion today to pickup two lenghts of fiddleback tas oak. 30 minutes later I walked out with my tasi oak, beefwood, african mahogany and a free sample of banksia. Really beautiful timber and some great prices .

I can highly recommend Sapherion and his timber.

    Thanks again,

    Peter

I second that. I am currently building an entertainment/display unit using blackwood that I bought from him late last year. I was able to glue up a couple of panels using the edges as he had prepared them.

Mine turned up this morning Brandon, that was fast service.

Couldn't help myself, have broken them down already. As per pics have ID'd the parts for the drawer fronts for my #2 apothecary cabinet, and have two nice 900mm bits left over. Again, couldn't help but plane one of them down to see the grain. This bit had the least obvious fiddle-back in rough form but looks great all the same, just wiped with some turps to bring it up.

    Very happy

Is it just me or is this stuff a lot more dense than normal furniture grade Tas Oak? Man, it's heavy stuff.

I only have a straight knife jointer/thickie, so I took 1/4 mm passes to avoid pulling up grain and was surprised it milled so well. i normally have heaps of trouble with fiddle-back. Mind you, I have learned the trick of sharpening my blades in-situ regularly with a little diamond lapper. Makes a heap of difference.

Going to make a larger version of the apothecary box I'm now working on, but 4 rows of 5 drawers about 150 mm wide by maybe 120 deep. Still thinking on material for the carcass. I might use something that will contrast. A local company does industrial scale 'cooking' of their timbers in huge microwave ovens to get a rich chocolate brown hue out of oaks and such. Looks beautiful, but I don't think I could convince them to do it for me

    Hi Brandon,

How much for another 4 or 5 of the 2.7m lengths delivered? Is there much of a difference to the courier price between 4 and 5 boards?

    Cheers,

    Hey Mike,

Not too much difference. Generally about an extra $11-15 per board.

Send me a pm with what you need and I’ll give you a total.

    Cheers bud
