    Default Free ornamental pear timber

We're pulling down an ornamental pear in the next few weeks. Timber might be good for turning and small stuff. Anyone interested? Will just be shredded otherwise. Pick up from Blackburn early July.

Fruit wood is usually really nice timber. I turned some pear into coffee tamper handles - very tactile. If it's milled/turned while its still a bit green you can even smell pear.

I could possibly be interested (if I can get all my chickens in a row etc). Can you advise the diameter of the trunk?

Circumference at 1m height is about 70cm, so diameter a bit over 20cm. Tree is booked to come down week of 6 July, it was just a bit awkward to DIY without destroying things.

I've seen the aftermath of a few tree felling operations gone wrong - sound slike you have done the right thing in getting the pro's to do it.

Much as it would be nice to have to do some carving on (love spoons etc), I will bow out and let others have the chance of enjoying the wood for larger projects. Tyranny of distance etc for the small quantity that I would have liked.

    Thanks for the offer Simon.

My wife is a doctor and sees the aftermath of ladder accidents all the time. She would finish me off if I hurt myself doing it.

The tree is down, but unfortunately with the new covid restrictions I'll have to put this on hold.
