So - just to clarify, this chap on Ebay is not the deal you were originally talking about? I'm basing that on this from post 11:
Is that opportunity still a thing, or has that fallen through/in favour of this seller on EBay?
Just asking - as I didn't see a way with the EBay seller to specify what type of timber? I know he's selling Obeche - which I have to admit I've never heard of before - I'm looking to make kumiko, so Basswood (potentially via the original described deal) would be preferable for me.

There are two suppliers so far.
The first is a NSW town based blind making company. They have, apparently, a huge shed rammed with slats and timbers from when they made their own. The owner admitted they now get their materials pre-made in China as they are an unbeatable price.... so they are looking for ways to make these perfect timbers into something useful.
This negotiation is still ongoing, for I don't need a big warehouse of materials! ... but a small one
Second is the eBay guy. He has a huge store of the Obeche that seems not to be moving. With this, so far, is ~100+ metres for $75. The material is as described above. The raw price is about $45, the other $30 is for postage.... so I've asked for a price on 250 metres to see if postage is about the same.
I have to admit, without word of a lie, that for EVERY OTHER company I've contacted, the entire "blinds industry" is a bunch of sharks, charlatans, shysters and frauds. I'd swear 90% of them are simply reselling someone else's products and NFI about the actual materials. So far, 100% of them refuse to reveal their sources and 100% of them won't supply the raw unfinished materials - DESPITE their claims to being Aussie made - its 100% lies.... its all imported.
It might be cheaper to buy the slat-making machine from China and bring it over ..... or organise something from Japan

No - I don't think we ever found out who the first supplier was (i.e. the one with different timbers etc)?
I know there was a guy on ebay that was mentioned, but I was kinda hanging out for the original seller etc...

Apologies to all for now following up. There was a bit of a bump in things.
The first guy, from eBay, came back with 100 slats of 1.2 metres for $75 posted.
Let me dredge up the conversation and see where I left it.
